NCSMA fall regional workshops reach thousands of interested high school media students and advisers. State student and adviser officers, elected by NCSMA members each year, plan workshops in the various regions of North Carolina.

NCSMA divides North Carolina into eight geographic regions and holds workshops in each one annually. Workshops are sponsored by a news organization or a university. For instance, in Charlotte, The Charlotte Observer has hosted the South-Central Piedmont workshop. In Asheville, UNC-Asheville has hosted the Southwest Regional workshop.

Advisers and students spend the day learning from news and media professionals. Past sessions include brainstorming session, media law and press rights and an editors’ roundtable.
